Step-by-Step Process to Apply for an International Driving Permit

1. Check Eligibility

You must have a valid Indian Driving License.
Your visa and passport must be valid for international travel.

2. Fill Form 4A

This is the application form for the IDP.

3. Gather Required Documents

Prepare DL, passport, visa, and other supporting documents (see full list below).

4. Medical Fitness Certificate

Submit Form 1A from a registered medical practitioner.

5. Submit Application at RTO

Submit all documents along with the government fee at your local RTO.

6. Verification & Processing

RTO will verify your documents and issue the IDP.

7. Receive Your IDP

The permit is typically issued within a few working days and may be collected in person or delivered.

Can a person with a learner’s license apply for an International Driving Permit?

No, a learner’s license holder is not eligible to apply for an International Driving Permit. Only individuals who possess a valid permanent driving license issued by the Regional Transport Office in India can apply
