What is Hypothecation Termination?
Hypothecation Termination is the legal process of removing the lender’s (bank/finance company’s) endorsement from your vehicle’s Registration Certificate after the loan has been fully repaid.
This updates the RC to reflect your full ownership of the vehicle.
Who Needs Hypothecation Termination?
You need to terminate hypothecation if:
- You’ve paid off your vehicle loan (car, bike, commercial vehicle)
- You wish to sell or transfer your vehicle to someone else
- You want to update your RC to show full ownership
- You need to renew insurance or update your address without hypothecation constraints
Note: Without hypothecation termination, you cannot transfer ownership of your vehicle or receive a clear title. Insurance claims may also face delays or rejections.
Step-by-Step Process for Hypothecation Termination
1. Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bank
- Request and collect an NOC stating your loan is fully repaid.
2. Collect Required Documents

3. Fill Form 35
- A mandatory form jointly signed by the vehicle owner and the financier.
4. Submit Application to RTO
- Submit Form 35, NOC, and all supporting documents at the local RTO.
5. RTO Verification
- RTO verifies the documents and processes the removal of hypothecation.
6. Receive Updated RC
- Get the new RC card without the hypothecation entry, either digitally or by post.

- Original Registration Certificate (RC)
- Form 35 signed by owner and financier
- Bank NOC (stating loan has been repaid)
- Copy of valid Vehicle Insurance
- Copy of valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
- Owner’s ID Proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID)
- Address Proof (if required)
- Passport-sized photograph
